“Diesel Fueled Defiance” is inspired by women on the forefront of car racing during the civil rights movements of the 60s, when an increasingly virulent sentiment toward women was under way. These women would do whatever it took for the taste of adventure that racing cars brought to their lives.

This long sleeved tee has been dyed by an independent, woman owned business "Nangkhram" in Sakon Nakhon province, Thailand's indigo capital. Situated along the Songkhram river in the north east of the country, Nok the owner, grows her own indigo from seed. She then processes her indigo harvest in great clay fermentation vats, which become microcosms of bacteria that thrive on diets of local fruit, plants, and sugars that vary throughout the seasons. W'menswear work in partnership with Nok on her own terms, and in respect for the age old Thai craft that she strives to preserve.

This season W'menswear launch a new partnership with family owned business, Ming Fong Knitting 1985, who are 20km from their studio in Bangkok. 30 years in the business, Ming Fongs factory is now operated by Ahm Wanna. After her father saved the business from closure 12 years ago, Ahm has been managing director for 8 years, keeping her father’s memory and love for this values-driven company alive.

A dying breed of knitting factory in the region, what sets Ming Fong apart is their commitment to maintaining a highly skilled team who can operate their ‘hand frame’ manual knitting machines. Being the only players in the region who still use these labor-intensive machines, their technicians naturally have 15-20 years of experience under their belts. Unlike automatic machines, hand-frame machines take up to 12 months of training to be able to operate to their high standards.

From cutting to sewing on their collection of vintage workwear machines, Ms Pukklang has made art from these end-of-life fabrics.
